Common Questions
Booking COVID-19 vaccine appointments in NYC is very complicated and confusing. “There are SO many websites, it’s too confusing!” / “Where do I start?”/ “How do I find a vaccine appointment?”
This vaccine guide will speak to official NYC city-run sites along with some major hospital-affiliated sites and community hubs and resources. I’ll touch briefly on pharmacies but am planning a full post on those - coming your way soon!
Who qualifies for the vaccine?
Get familiar with NYC eligibility for the vaccine - just updated to ages 60+!
If you’re under 60, check out the varied list of qualifying occupations and health conditions (comorbidities & underlying conditions).
Which vaccines are available?
There are currently 3 FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccines:
Pfizer-BioNTech (2 doses, ages 16+)
Moderna (2 doses, ages 18+)
Johnson & Johnson (1 dose, ages 18+)
Where do I start?
Search for vaccine appointments at NYC COVID-19 Vaccine Finder.
View a general list or use your address or zip code to find local sites from NYC-run hubs to local pharmacies. Make sure you check out the FAQ page!
The Vaccine Finder is a one-stop site for New Yorkers to find their nearest COVID-19 vaccination location. The Vaccine Finder can also provide New Yorkers with information to schedule vaccination appointments.
To get started, type in an address, ZIP code, or click “near me” to find a list of nearby provider locations. You will also see links and phone numbers to schedule an appointment.
Each site manages its own schedules and appointments. This tool is intended to help make site information – including scheduling options – easily accessible to New Yorkers.
The majority of NYC-run sites on this page are part of the NYC Health + Hospitals system. Call 877-VAX-4NYC or 877-829-4692 to talk to a live human to schedule an appointment if you prefer that to online booking.
After you book an appointment, complete the NYS COVID-19 Vaccine Form.
Note: Some sites that are located in NYC are actually state-run NYC hubs (including Javits Center in Manhattan). For more information on those sites, check out my last post.
Let’s get more specific….
The official public health network of NYC Health + Hospitals has clinics across all 5 boroughs.
Also key are major private hospital systems and affiliated medical clincs:
NYU Langone: see Vaccine info & register for MYChart Patient Portal
NorthWell Health: see Vaccine info & register for FollowMyHealth
NewYork-Presbyterian: umbrella organization including Columbia University’s ColumbiaDoctors & Weill Cornell Medical Center
See Vaccine Together for their combined information page

What about urgent care sites?
These are the 2 big names in NYC for COVID testing and vaccines:
Wait a second….what about Javits?
Welcome to common NYC resident confusion: City vs. state operated sites!
I’m seeing all these pictures from friends going to Javits Center (Manhattan), Aqueduct Racetrack (Queens), York College (Queens), and Medgar Evers College (Brooklyn), and they’re in the city!
Those are NY state run sites! More on those in a previous post.
What about homebound seniors?
Homebound NYC residents can register here to be contacted by the City regarding eligibility for the in-home vaccination program.
What’s the deal with 24/7 sites & AM vs. PM appointments?
Some mega hubs such as Yankee Stadium and Citi Field are running 24/7.
Wait, isn’t Javits Center one of those? Nope, it’s a NY state run site and it offers different vaccines based on your time slot.
